Description of the Nasturtium Flower

The nasturtium literally translates to “nose-twister” and this is part of the Tropaeolaceae family which has nearly 80 species in it. This is also a perennial flowering plant, so it will keep coming back year after year, which is great. This is a flower that really stands out and is actually pretty easy to grow, which makes it something that a lot of people want to have in their gardens. Uses for the Nasturtium Flower

But, the bigger draw with the nasturtium is that it is edible, all parts of the plant are edible too, so you can use all of it. This is a flower that is used a lot in salads as a decoration that you can eat. However, it also tastes like watercress, so a lot of people will use the leaves and such in stir fry. The seed pods actually can be pickled and used as a garnish that is similar to capers. There are definitely some great uses for the nasturtium.

You will actually find that these plants are going to grow best in direct sunlight and will have a better bloom this way because they are getting what they need and it is easier for them to grow. This is a flower that you will want to make sure that you have set proper drainage up for so that it can get rid of any excess water that may be there so that it isn’t getting drown with the water that is entering the soil.
