All About the Narcissus Flower

The narcissus is known more commonly by names like the daffodil and the jonquil. This is a plant that has a lot of history and a flower that a lot of people really enjoy and appreciate. The story behind the narcissus is that a man was looking at himself in a river and actually stayed there for a few weeks. He was so caught up by his own image and his beauty that he actually starved to death while looking at himself. The key is, this flower now has a floral meaning that ties into that and it ties into egotism and the word narcissist can be derived from narcissus.

The narcissus genus includes flowers like the daffodil and the jonquil. This is a family that is full of hardy bulb flowers that will bloom early in the spring and get your gardening season started with their beautiful flowers. You will find that these flowers grow throughout Asia, Europe, and North Africa, but today they have been cultivated in many other areas of the world. The narcissus flower is pretty standard in terms of what the species look like. This flower has a central bowl and has flower petals around it. The bowl is generally a contrasting color so that it really stands out. The narcissus flowers generally have a ring of 6 leaves that will make up the petals of the flowers and really stand out. Uses for the Narcissus Flower

There are two main uses for the narcissus flowers. First, people love to use them for floral arrangements and bouquets. These flowers really stand out because they are bright and they generally have very contrasted colors, they are a great bouquet flower because they are relatively easy to grow and relatively easy to get your hands on. Otherwise, people love to grow these flowers. The main draw with the narcissus is that they are early bloomers so you can have flowers in your garden with these far before anything else is even considering blooming. They are relatively easy to grow, which allows a lot of people to get them in their gardens and have great looking flowers.

 

 

Why do people plant the Narcissus Flower ?

The great thing with the narcissus plants are that they bloom early. Since they are a bulb plant, you can actually plant them at the end of the previous season, so when everything else is dying off for the winter, you can plant the bulbs. That way, as soon as they are able to the narcissus will start to sprout and grow in the spring.
