All about the Fir Flower
A fir is a tree that many of us know really well. This is a tree that a lot of people know and enjoy for many reasons. We use fir trees for many of our holidays or we may have fond memories playing outside around the fir trees as a child. While it isn’t a flower, it is actually a very aromatic tree that can be used for arrangements and other things like that. The fir, in floral meanings actually represents time, and this is such a great thing that you can give anyone hat you truly care about.
Description of the Fir Flower
There are many different species of fir trees; you will find that there are around 55 of these trees. A fir tree is actually a evergreen conifer, which means that it stays green year round and produces cones. Most of the firs that you are going to find are actually going to be found in colder climates or in mountain ranges. It is important to note that a Douglas fir is not actually a fir tree and that firs are most like the cedar family in terms of the make up. Fir trees can get giant, they are going to be anywhere between 30 and 260 feet tall with a trunk that can be between 2 and 12 feet tall, the older they get the larger that the tree is going to get.
Uses for the Fir Flower
There are all kinds of uses for the fir tree. Many people will use the fir for firewood, it burns for a long period of time and it smells great, if you have a fireplace, look at burning fir timber. Also, it can be used to make plywood and that sort of thing. Other fir trees are used for Christmas trees, many of the tree farms that you see throughout North America will offer a species of a fir for the Christmas tree that you are going to cut down. This is a great use for these trees. Along these same lines, the branches of the fir trees are great for making wreathes for the holidays and since they are so aromatic, they will really give you not only a beautiful wreath, but one that smells great.
Why do people plant the Fir Flower?
Really, the big part about the fir tree is the cones that come off of it. The cones are what allow the fir tree to reproduce and to make sure that there will be more fir trees in the area. These cones can vary in size and they are going to open at a certain point in the year so that the seeds can spread. The cones are also a very important identifier in the type of fir tree that you are dealing with. The size and shape of the cones is really going to tell you what it is. You will also ant to look at the scales of the cone and how they look.
