All About the Evening Primrose Flower

The evening primrose is a great flower; it gets its name simply because it only opens in the evening hours. But, this is a great flower and it is a flower that is similar to the common primrose that most people know about. There are many different uses for this flower from eating it to growing it to putting it in bouquets. Description of the Evening Primrose Flower

The biggest thing about the evening primrose and the reason it is called what the name it has is because it will actually open only in the evening hours. There are about 125 species of these plants and they grow all over the world, they are native to North and South America. The plants are generally anywhere from a few inches to a few feet tall. The leaves are green and really spiral open. The flowers are sometimes white, but also can be purple, pink, and yellow depending on where they are growing. Some of the blooms even change color over time, so you will see that some of them start out pink and may turn to a darker color later on.

 

 

Uses for the Evening Primrose Flower

This flower is not a huge flower that you are going to see in a lot of bouquets however it can be done for that purpose. For the most part, the evening primrose is actually going to be seen more in home gardens and in flower beds. This is a great flower that a lot of people love to grow because it grows tall, it grows fast, it is relatively easy to grow, and it will take up a lot of space. You want to make sure that you are giving your evening primrose enough space though so it is able to grow and be just the way that you want it. There are all kinds of great ways that you can plant and grow the evening primrose so that it looks incredible in your front or back yard.

The evening primrose does grow pretty rampantly in the wild, and you will find it generally wherever there is a bare patch of ground. It will basically start to bring green to the areas without even much work having to happen, which is great. Aside from that, they are also plants that people really like to have in their gardens, so it is important that you know how to grow them. These species are going to grow best in very fertile soil and you want to make sure that they have a lot of space and not a lot of competition. You also want to make sure that they have great drainage as they don’t need a lot of water to grow to their flowering height.
