All About the Begonia Flower

A Begonia is a beautiful flower that people all over know and know well. The Begonia name was actually derived from a family name out of France that was Begoniaceae, this name was give to the flower from the French patron of Botany. He did this to make sure that he was honoring this family name but the meaning of the flower is actually something completely different. With the Begonia flower, if you are getting one, you want to be careful, there may be some mixed signals behind you actually getting the Begonia flowers.

 

Description of the Begonia Flower

With Begonias, as with everything else, there are a lot of different species, which provide different looks and colors. But, in general, a Begonia is very easy to recognize. You will find that a Begonia is a very simple flower, it looks great and it is easy to distinguish. With a Begonia they have a winged capsule that is going to have seeds in it and outside of that they are going to have the flower with the leaves and the colors. The Begonia has larger leaves and they are generally very colorful. The flowers are also colorful with white colors, pink, yellow, shades of orange and much more. What has happen is over the years, more and more hybrid Begonias have come out and they have created new colors and new styles.

 

Uses for the Begonia Flower

While a Begonia can be used for more of the floral arrangements, a lot of people are slightly hesitant to use them because of the floral meaning that they have. So, you want to make sure that you are ok with the Begonia and what it means before you order it in a floral arrangement. This isn’t a flower that you should send for Valentine’s Day or an Anniversary, so be mindful of that. A florist will generally let you know if they think that they are a good idea or not in a bouquet. However, what the Begonias are better for is for planting in your yard. These are hardy flowers that are generally able to stand the elements and are relatively easy to take care of. This will make your gardening that much easier and will allow you to have flowerbeds that look great. You can also easily grow these inside if you want something great to grow in the winter.

 

Why do people plant the Begonia Flower?

With Begonias, it really depends on what type you are growing; different Begonias have different requirements on the climate depending on where they originated from. So, be sure that you know what you are growing and what the climate is that they are used to. Genearlly, most of these plants require higher temperatures, especially if they are hybrid, which is found more in the tropical climates. Generally, if you live in a mild climate, you will be able to grow them outdoors year round and you can use them as household plants if you live in a cooler climate.
